Northland got out of jail with a half against Hawke's Bay on day two of the 2015 Toro Interprovincials in Invercargill yesterday.

While Luke Brown missed a tough 1.5m putt on the final hole that would have won the match, pundits suggest Northland didn't really deserve the victory and would have been happy with the half.

Unbeaten after two days, Northland are well on track for a top-two finish in their division.

Northland were a strong feature on day one of play.

Hosts Southland also delivered on the course by winning both of their opening fixtures at the 2015 Toro Interprovincials, however, they were not alone.

Northland also won two from two, taking down some big names to sit at the top of their division after day one.

The Northland team, spearheaded by Luke Brown who played magnificently to record two wins and joined by Kadin Neho, Alex Neely, Taylor Gill and Sheldon Kearns, defeated an impressive Wellington team in the morning round on day one, and then backed it up in the afternoon to beat a solid Auckland outfit by an even better margin of 4-1.

Northland manager, Brad Bonnington was pleased with the first day but was measured in his assessment of the significance of being the early leader.

"You can't win it on day one, but you can certainly put yourself back in the pack."

The 2014 champions, Waikato have announced themselves yet again as a big threat with a clean sweep over Poverty Bay on day one.

Waikato's top two of Luke Twoomey and Nick Voke featured in dominant wins.

Joining Waikato, and fresh off a win at the SBS Invitational, Otago showed their most recent result was no fluke.
