Tikipunga grabbed an impressive victory over Bream Bay United in a high-scoring round of the Northland Premier Men's football competition.

They kept Bream Bay scoreless on route to the 4-0 win.

The visitors were irrepressible on attack as Scott Burgess, Carl Challenor and Johnny Walters all performed strongly in a top team effort.

Bream Bay toiled away but were outclassed by a top unit.

Meanwhile Central Brown grabbed an important 2-1 win over FC Whangarei.

Central Brown pipped their opposition in a tight encounter where neither side could really get away.

The other two matches saw two convincing victories.

Kerikeri Bay Builders dominated Kamo to take out the match 4-1, while Onerahi Cowleys Hire were far too clinical for their opponents in their 5-1 away win over Madhatters.

The Northland men's team extended their unbeaten run in the Lotto NRFL Division Two to five games yesterday, scoring three late goals to beat Claudelands Rovers at Galloway Park in Hamilton.

Michael Kapa opened the scoring for the hosts on the hour with a low 25m drive and it looked like it was going to be enough until Northland's equaliser in the 82nd minute through substitute Joel Murray- his first goal for the club since joining from Lynn Avon.

Midlfielder Johnny Fletcher put Northland in front three minutes later with a well-placed header from a Lewis Miller corner, while captain Steve Schimmel put the game beyond doubt by rounding the keeper in injury time and slotting home, sparking wild celebrations in the away team dugout.

Head coach Dan Johnston said his troops fought hard for the result.

"The game looked like it had slipped away from us, but we mixed up the formation and went for it in the last 10 minutes," he said.

"The lads showed real character out there and never let their heads drop, they stuck to their tasks and we were able to get three valuable points away from home.

"The table makes for good reading at the moment, we go back to our Tuesday/Thursday training routines now following a busy Easter and start to prepare for the next challenge against Mangere - there are no easy games in this league and we need to stay focused."

The result leaves Northland third in the table behind Fencibles and Waiheke Utd.
