Meanwhile the Northland FC men moved into third position on the Lotto NRFL Division Two ladder with a 3-1 away victory over Ngongotaha.
Assistant coach Owen Liiv said it was a great show of resilience to pick up the victory.
"We have been looking forward to this trip all year, but this weekend we had a real challenge. Dan's away doing his A Licence and our first-choice keeper was suspended," he said.
"The character we showed again is outstanding, the lads have grown together this year and it has been fantastic to be a part of."
Northland made the trip down on Friday night to be fresh for the game on Saturday and the tactic appeared to pay dividends with the reserve team flying out the blocks and winning 5-2.
In the main event, the boys in blue struggled to find rhythm during the opening exchanges and went a goal down on 25 minutes from a corner.
But like many times throughout 2017, the goal sparked Northland into life. They dominated the rest of the half and were rewarded with a Johnny Fletcher header to tie things up.
Northland continued the trend in the second spell but the turn of weather led to another set-piece goal with Lewis Miller curling in a free kick for a Ngongotaha defender to turn the ball into his own net.
Johnny Fletcher sealed the result with a minute to go, finishing a fine move and slotting home. This ensured Northland moved into the top three.
Northland play their last home game next week against Papakura City.
