Whangārei's Canopy Night Markets started for the summer in fine style on Friday night, with foodies flocking to the Canopy Bridge to sample the tasty fare on offer.

The markets are brainchild of Leeann de Vries and are held on Fridays. There will be 11 markets this season, running until March 22 next year. The markets began in October last year after de Vries formulated the goal of boosting the local economy and growing businesses in the area.
