After a period of rain later today, mostly fine weather is predicted for Northland for the rest of this week with temperatures likely to be in the low 20s.
A front moving from the South Island is responsible for the unsettled weather and MetService meteorologist Tui McInnes said rain wasforecast for Northland later this afternoon as the front moved away from New Zealand.
The rain would not be persistent and should clear by tomorrow morning, he said.
"Once the front passes through, southerly winds will keep things cooler for the rest of the week in Northland. Another front moves in later on in the week that may bring rain depending on how high that front is.
"Northland should expect temperatures to be in the high teens, early 20s and that period from mid to late week would be quite nice and sunny, although there will be a few nippy mornings because of the skies will be fairly clear and calm," McInnes said.
He said humidity, particularly from the middle of this week, would be low due to the southerlies.
The next lot of persistent rain is forecast for early next week.
A typical cold front last weekend brought gusty winds, areas of heavy rain, a handful of thunderstorms and even some snow for the South Island mountain tops.
