Police say they are continuing enquiries after an operation was launched involving the police Armed Offenders Squad and Eagle helicopter at a Far North property.

A spokesman said staff were there in relation to a person wanted for arrest.

A section of State Highway 10 was closed but has since reopened, and police staff have been stood down.

A motorist at the intersection to the Karikari Peninsula turnoff earlier said they had been sitting in traffic for 45 minutes near the cordon heading south.

Within the first 10 minutes, the Eagle helicopter had circled “quite low”, they said.

The person said they had been told by a police officer that the incident was “gun-related”.

Police earlier said a property off State Highway 10 near Lake Ōhia has been cordoned off, and the public should avoid the area.

Staff had been assisted by the Armed Offenders Squad and the police Eagle helicopter.

Lake Ōhia is between Kaingaroa and Taipā in the Far North.
