What good would a "Lest We Forget" sign owned by the Whangarei RSA be to anyone other than the RSA.
It is a moronic, senseless, nuisance theft.

And disrespectful, to former service men and women, to the very words "lest we forget".
RSA members are offering a reward for information leading to the sign's return.
It was pinched on Waitangi Day.

The kauri slab with the words "Lest We Forget" has greeted visitors to the Whangarei RSA Club on Rust Ave since November 11, 2001.
Thieves unscrewed four bolts on the corner of the 2m-long sign, leaving a set of barren posts.
Whangarei RSA vice-president Kevin Peachey says members feel strongly about the sign's theft and are offering a $500 reward.
"The members feel it desecrated the memories of the people who served and died for their country.
"The 100th anniversary [of Anzac forces landing on Gallipoli in 1915] is coming up and we want it back to honour those sacrifices."
The sign, I suspect is sitting in a flat somewhere in the central Whangarei area.
The Northern Advocate is appealing to readers and its Facebook and website audience to flush the sign out of its temporary hiding place. Leave it at the RSA, or take a discrete drive down Walton St in Whangarei and leave it at the Advocate's front door.
We want it back, please.
