Drunk drove in anger after refusal to hospital

An intoxicated man denied entry into Whangarei Hospital vented his anger at security staff by driving up and down the road.

His action was a recipe for trouble after police discovered he was he had excess alcohol in his blood.

Colin Charles Chandler, 65, was denied entry into the hospital about 2.30pm on October 5.

He then entered his vehicle and drove up and down Hospital Rd before reparking his vehicle.

Security staff followed Chandler on foot down Hospital Rd until police arrived.

He had 968 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath - more than twice the legal limit of 400mcg. Chandler was ordered to do 100 hours community work and was disqualified from driving for six months.

The Northern Advocate is publishing its "name and shame" list of all people convicted of drink driving offences in the region.

Andrew William HALL, 18, 571mcg, six months community detention, disqualified from driving for one year.

Charles Mason HODGE, 28, 544mcg, 80 hours community work, disqualified from driving for six months.

Clinton Donald HOPKINS, 20, 585MCG, $450 fine, disqualified from driving for six months.

Jon Roderic ATTWOOD, 18, 528mcg, $500 fine, disqualified from driving for six months.

Adam Joel BROWNE, 20, 517mcg, $500 fine, disqualified from driving for six months.

Tara Ann Geertje De KONING, 40, 1084mcg, supervision for nine months, 60 hours community work, disqualified from driving for eight months.

Dean KEEPA, 26, 129 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, $600 fine, disqualified from driving for six months.

Frederick John Michael ROBERTS, 58, 594mcg, $600 fine, disqualified from driving for six months.

Brian Paul MARTIN, 37, 107 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, 100 hours community work, disqualified from driving for nine months.

Tara Naomi MOSELEN, 33, 577mcg, 100 hours community work, disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Rewa Helen BROOME, 44, 748mcg, 100 hours community work, disqualified from driving for nine months.

Jared Michael HALES, 19, 456mcg, $300 fine, disqualified from driving for six months.

Thomas Allan-John MURPHY, 21, 510mcg, 80 hours community work, disqualified from driving for nine months.
