A Whangarei man's erratic driving saw a member of the public contact police who found he had been drinking and driving.
Now, Richard James DOOLEY is spending eight months in jail for his seventh drink-driving conviction after being sentenced in the Whangarei District Court recently.
The police summary of facts said Dooley
was driving along Otaika Rd, Whangarei, about 8.30pm on March 16. A member of the public reported his erratic driving to police, who tried to stop him on Otaika Rd a short time later.
However, despite the flashing police lights and siren blaring Dooley continued on his way home, followed by police.
When he stopped at home he told police he did not realise they wanted him to stop and he had had a fews beers after work.
A test revealed a level of 682mcg of alcohol per litre of breath.
The legal limit for motorists aged 20 and above is 400mcg.
Dooley was jailed for eight months and disqualified from driving for one year and a day.
Northland has the highest rate of recidivist drink-drivers in the country and the Northern Advocate is publishing its "name and shame" list of people convicted.
