A unique photography project by Bay of Islands GP Chris Reid will come to fruition this Friday when the doctor launches his book and exhibition called Patient: Portraits from a doctor's surgery.
Dr Reid, who lives in Russell but works at Kerikeri Medical Centre, has spent the past two years photographing virtually ever patient that walked into his surgery.
He was more surprised than anyone when all but two of the 400-odd patients he asked agreed to be part of the project.
The resulting portraits were whittled down to 150 images for the book and 40 for the exhibition, capturing an extraordinary snapshot of the full cross-section of Far North society.
Half the fun for locals is seeing how many people they can recognise. The cover photo is of the much-loved kuia June Hei Hei from Te Tii.
The show opens to the public at Kerikeri's Turner Centre on Saturday, October 11, and runs until October 27. It will be open daily in the Theatre Bar from 9am-4.30pm.
More to come in Saturday's Advocate.
