Daktory Social Club member's sentencing adjourned for second time

Find a suitable home detention address or go to jail, a judge told a Whangarei woman found guilty of possessing and supplying cannabis oil.

Sentencing for Daktory Social Club member Sarah Gwenneth Gillgren, 28, was adjourned for the second time in the Whangarei District Court this week after a suitable home detention address could not be found.

Gillgren and Brian Thomas Borland were found guilty by a jury in October and while he was sentenced to four years and nine months' imprisonment last month, her sentencing was adjourned.

Both were charged after a raid by police at the Daktory club premises in the Port Rd industrial area in January this year.

Gillgren was found guilty on charges of possession of cannabis oil for supply and supplying cannabis oil. The jury returned a majority verdict on the charge of supplying cannabis oil for Gillgren.

Gillgren had already pleaded guilty to one charge of cultivating cannabis and another of selling cannabis before the start of their trial.

In court this week, her lawyer Arthur Fairley asked for another adjournment because the Probation Service had had difficulty contacting Gillgren's parents who were overseas to check the suitability of a home detention address.

Mr Fairley said the pre-sentence report mentioned another address could be available.

Judge Duncan Harvey said he would put off the sentencing for the last time and if Gillgren did not come up with another address, she would likely go to jail.

The next sentencing date is December 20.

Borland was found guilty of cultivating cannabis, selling cannabis oil and another of permitting premises to be used for growing cannabis.
