Cricket: Onerahi defeated by Kamo

All-rounder Junaid Khan produced a tidy innings with the ball for Onerahi Central Prems at the weekend, but his 4/30 off eight overs was the only highlight to emerge from his side's 52-run loss to Kamo Prems.

Holding Kamo to 145/10 in the first innings was an ideal omen for the Onerahi side who were looking to hopefully better their 82/10 against Kaipara Flats Prems in their previous outing.

However, Onerahi's luck ran dry as they took to the crease in the hope of chasing down the easy target.

"We didn't have our usual side," said Onerahi's Henry Cooper, who put his team's below-par performance down to losing a few players to Saturday's Cricket World Cup showdown between New Zealand and Australia in Auckland.

To make matters worse, Onerahi's batters failed to ignite against a hungry Kamo bowling attack.

"Obviously no one got runs for us," Cooper said.

Kamo's Ben Hyde commended the bowling effort of his players in the low-scoring affair, citing himself and Curtis Cherrington as the key wicket takers of the second innings.

"A couple of dudes got 20s but that was about it really," Hyde said of Kamo's batting performance.

In other matches over the weekend, City Cricket Club's Prems sent Kaipara Flats Premier side home licking their wounds after setting an imposing total of 232/10 after 45.3 overs.

Kaipara Flats only managed 145/9 off 33.1 overs on the Kensington Park pitch; however, they managed to retain top spot in the overall Lion Red Cup standings.

Craig Little put on an impressive 115 off 93 balls for City Cricket whilst Jake Serotsky brought up his half-century scoring 55 runs off 101 deliveries.

Maungakaramea Cricket Club Prems scored an emphatic win over Whangarei Boys' High School, Zest Insurance 1st XI at Maungakaramea on Saturday.

The tight contest provided much excitement for spectators with the home side reaching 160/7 after 49.4 overs.

Whangarei Boys High left their run-chase too late though, with all their batsmen being bowled out upon conclusion of the 48th over scoring 159/10 and suffering a humiliating 1 run defeat.

Matthew Lobb and Tyler Lorton led the charge for Whangarei Boy's High scoring 38 and 39 respectively.

Bert Horner managed to score 64 runs for Maungakaramea before being dismissed by Lobb who took three handy wickets for 24 runs in his 10 overs.
