Cricket: Martin Tansley nabs eight in draw between Onerahi Central and Kamo

Onerahi Central opener Martin Tansley grabbed a rare eight-wicket bag but it wasn't enough to stop a draw against Kamo in the Declaration Cricket reserve grade.

Kamo won the toss and decided to bat first, but they struggled to get going as Tansley immediately made inroads with two wickets in his first two overs.

By the end of his first spell, Tansley had four wickets and Kamo were 26 for four.

Leon Cross (60) and Logan Choat (75) then went about their work, combining for a vital 118-run stand to help dig Kamo out of a hole.

When Choat was stumped at 144 for 5, Tansley was reintroduced to the attack and carried on where he left off to grab a further four wickets.

Tansley's figures were eight for 47, helping to restrict Kamo to 196 for 9 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Kamo grabbed two early wickets through Logan Choat (1 for 22) and Richard Cates (1 for 21).

BJ Howie (56) and Pieter Lambrechts (26) consolidated the innings, while Parsan Lohia (35) added some late fireworks for Onerahi Central, but they ended at 152 for five in their 40 overs to end the game in a draw.

Api Pakiyarajah (2 for 31) had Kamo's best figures.

In the other match, Duracrete Products City grabbed a five-wicket win over Whangarei Boys' High School Second XI.

WBHS scored 181 for seven in their 50 overs as they batted with patience and control.

Cale Pooley top scored with a well compiled 50, while Craig Gurr also chipped in with an unbeaten 37.

Vaughan Witten (2 for 26) was the pick of the bowlers.

City started their chase inauspiciously, losing two early wickets through the bowling of WBHS' Jacob Wood (2 for 32).

Brad Lang (25) helped steady the ship but two quick wickets had City reeling at 58 for four.

But City's middle order made sure they got home with contributions from Ravinder Maan (48), Witten (26 not out) and Ashton Pattenden (39 off 22) to see them home with just 15 balls to go.
