Tomorrow shapes as a pivotal day in Northland's club cricket scene as it is the last chance for teams to gain valuable points in 2016.

After last week's action was marred by poor weather, all the fixtures in the premier grade Oxford Two-Day Competition are sitting in interesting positions.

Kaipara Flats ended day one of their contest against Kamo in a great position after leaving their opposition at 96/6 before the rain set in.

Shaun Beamish (4-36) was the chief destroyer, needing just one wicket at Bourne Dean for a five-wicket bag. Lakhvir Singh (21) and Ben Hyde (20) passed 20 runs but no one was able to stick around.

Dave Armit (2) and Lakhdeep Singh (4) will resume on the Kaipara deck with a lot of work to do to help Kamo back into the contest.

Westech Automotive Maungakaramea found themselves in an even more precarious position on day one against Onerahi Central and will start the day at 79/7.

Onerahi's bowling attack were on song right from the outset as wickets were shared between Scott Robertson (2-17), Tom Herman (2-16), Fletcher Coutts (2-4) and Rory Anders (1-27).

Only Tom Lovegrove (27) and Kurtley Watson (18) made double figures, leaving Maungakaramea a mountain of work to get through tomorrow.

In the final match, Duracrete Products City are in a good position with the bat at 130/3 going into day two of their clash against Whangarei Boys' High School First XI.

Caleb Boswell-Smith (2-26) made early breakthroughs on day one but James Thompson (63 not out) and Ian Page (46) negated the bowling attack.

Thompson will resume his innings with Harry Darkins, who is on seven.

In the reserve grade 40 over competition, Bream Bay face Onerahi Central in a replay of the T20 final.

Bream Bay hold the momentum going into the match after winning Sunday's final by eight runs.

In other matches, Westech Automotives Maungakaramea take on Kamo in a top of the table battle, Duracrete Products City face WBHS Second XI and Kerikeri play Kamo High First XI at home.

Meanwhile, Northern Wairoa took out the Third Grade Pre Christmas Competition with a four wicket win over WBHS Colts.

Northern Wairoa bowled WBHS out for 120 with six bowlers sharing the wickets between them.

Kane Robertson (2-2) had the best figures for Northern Wairoa while Jade Litchfield (25) and Cale Pooley (22) led the way with the bat for WBHS.

Kalani Snooks (28 not out) and Ross Wallace (22) brought Northern Wairoa home as they got there with four wickets in hand.

Tomorrow is also the last week of games before Christmas for junior cricketers, and that the second half of the season resumes when school goes back in February.

Anyone interested in playing can contact their local club administrators for more information.
