Cricket: Kerikeri win nail-biter and Onerahi cruise home

Kerikeri took out a tense tussle with Kamo High in the latest round of reserve grade cricket action.

Kamo High had first tilt at the batting crease and made their way to a solid 168 for nine from their overs.

Max Turner led the way with the bat, scoring 45, and received good assistance from Kobe Walters (31) and Brett Weber (20).

Manik Fernando was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 17 while spinner Max Hart (2 for 29) chipped in with a couple of scalps.

In reply, Oscar Hart (68 not out) showed great poise to get Kerikeri home with just two wickets left in the last over. Alex Poole provided Hart with some help in his innings of 32.

Nathan Parkes (3 for 22) and Billy Alexander-Crawford (2 for 28) did what they could but Kerikeri snuck home in the end.

Meanwhile Onerahi picked up their first win of the 40-over competition with a 112-run win over Duracrete Products City.

Batting first, Onerahi made 196 for five despite some tight bowling from Reagan Radford (2 for 17).

Parsan Lohia (56) and Kirk Henderson (33) put on an 89-run stand, capitalising on a great platform set by BJ Howie (47) and Ryan Woodman (28).

City's reply never really got off the ground as quick bowlers Axel Sheppard, Adam Sylva and Martin Tansley each picked up a brace of scalps.

Tim King (28 not out) and Terry Jobbitt (26) put some runs on the board before Andrew Johnsen (4 for 7) cleaned up the tail to have City all out for 84.

Kamo picked up a tight one-wicket win in their clash with Whangarei Boys High School.

WBHS set Kamo a target of 167 after Cale Pooley put on a gritty unbeaten 68. Ethan Cowan's trio of wickets limited the damage.

Logan Choat proved to be the backbone of Kamo's chase with his 81 providing the bulk of the runs as they crept home despite the best efforts of Jacob Wood (3 for 4) and Brandon Peck (3 for 24).

In the final match a Nathan Condon century led Westech Automotives Maungakaramea to a four-wicket win over Bream Bay.

Manjot Singh scored 74 for Bream Bay as they set Maungakaramea a target of 201 for victory.

However Condon made it look easy as he made his way to an unbeaten 101 in an innings filled with top-drawer stroke making.
