Cricket: Kamo High, Kerikeri, City fire early in reserve grade

Kamo High, Kerikeri, City and Maungakaramea all got their reserve grade seasons off to a flier with convincing victories.

Kamo High decided to bat first against Onerahi Central and despite a couple of early losses, it looked to be the right decision.

Nathan Parkes continued his form from Greg Guy Shield as he punished the Onerahi bowlers for bowling on his pads, picking up a well-compiled 56.

Tom Bolton was a great foil for Parkes as his 40 helped Kamo's push for 200.

Max Turner (32) and Geoff Parker (22) added quick runs in the last few overs to push Kamo High to an imposing 207 for four.

Onerahi's reply never really got off the ground as only BJ Howie (30) provided sustained resistance to Kamo High's nagging line.

Harry Cooper (2 for 30), Parkes (2 for 24) and Parker (2 for 9) all chipped in with wickets to end Onerahi's chase at 123.

Kerikeri meanwhile knocked over Bream Bay after a top bowling performance.

Bream Bay's John Cunningham battled to remain unbeaten on 37 as Kerikeri leg-spinner Max Hart ripped through the middle and lower order.

His four for 28 was the biggest contribution as they knocked over Bream Bay for 106.

The chase proved relatively comfortable as captain Owen Arthur added a quick-fire 61 off 42 balls to his three catches to lead his side to the total in less than 19 overs.

City picked up a strong six-wicket win over Whangarei Boys' High School to get their season off to a flier.

Robbie McPherson (four for 23) was the pick of the bowlers as they knocked over WBHS for 114. Bruce Kessell snared five catches behind the stumps.

They chased down the target fairly easily, only losing four wickets in the chase.

In the final match a Raman Sharma ton lead Maungakaramea to a 200-run win over Kamo.

Sharma batted brilliantly for his 120 and was ably supported by Nathan Condon (50) and Ali White (46) as they set 293.

Richard Cates (4 for 65) performed valiantly but his effort couldn't halt Maungakaramea's charge.

Kamo didn't come close to the target, crumbling to 93 as Kalani Snooks (4 for 25) picked up four wickets.
