Cricket: Kaipara Flats wrap up innings victory over City

Kaipara Flats have set the tone in the Oxford Trust Two Day competition after picking up a dominant innings and 139 run victory over Duracrete Products City.

Kaipara started the day on 218/2 and Rory Christopherson continued his charge after bringing up a ton on the opening day.

He and Kyran Dill (44) continued to punish the City bowlers before both were dismissed.

Christopherson was the star of the show, scoring 156 off 196 balls. His innings included 20 boundaries.

Kaipara eventually declared on 351/7 after a quick fire 28 from Michael O'Flaherty, giving them a first innings lead of 259.

City battled valiantly with the bat with Rory Darkins (24), Bert Horner (31) and Vaughan Witten (22) all contributing starts.

However, a strong team effort with the ball from Kaipara ended City's innings at 120, giving Kaipara the big victory.

Dill (2-18) and Liam Jones (2-16) were the picks of the attack.

Meanwhile, Onerahi Central took 18 wickets on day two of their clash against Whangarei Boys' High School to pick up a 120 run win.

WBHS started the day on 67/1, looking to haul in Onerahi's 233, however they quickly found themselves on the back foot.

Caleb Boswell-Smith's 32 was their best effort on day two as leg-spinner Kirk Henderson (3-27), quick bowler Tom Herman (2-13) and off-spinner Henry Cooper (2-42) restricted WBHS to 166.

With the first innings points locked up, Onerahi went on the hunt for an outright victory.

They batted quickly to put on 124/4 before declaring with Tom Keogh top scoring with an unbeaten 30.

This left WBHS a chase of 191 in the final session but after a tough start, survival was the objective.

Herman bowled with accuracy and pace to gut the WBHS top order, ending the innings with superb figures of 13-6-15-5.

At the other end it was Cooper did all the damage, grabbing 4-14 from 14 overs and taking the final wicket to give Onerahi the win.

In reserve grade, Onerahi Central had a resounding 113-run victory over Westech Automotive Maungakaramea.

Onerahi put 196/3 on the board batting first as BJ Howie led the charge with a commanding 67.

Contributions from Ryan Woodman (43 not out) and Robert Lee (29) aided the cause as they pulled apart Maungakaramea's attack.

Maungakaramea got their chase off to the worst start as Axel Sheppard (2-11) picked up a pair of wickets in the opening over.

Alex Gordon (22) steadied the ship for a while but Sid Rana ran through the rest of the order, taking 4-26.

Kamo High continued their strong season with a six wicket victory over Bream Bay.

Bream Bay seemed to be on their way to a competitive total when they were sitting at 108 for five with 13 overs to go, with contributions from Bruce Paton (25) and Brendon Maihi (20) helping the cause.

However a quick collapse of five wickets for just 10 runs ended their innings at 118.

Harry Cooper (3-6) took the final three wickets with his off-spin while Nathan Parkes (2-25) and Shay Ladd (2-22).

Parkes (53 not out) picked up another half-century in the chase as he and Max Turner (24) helped Kamo High home with relative comfort.
