The Duckworth-Lewis method was brought into play as the Lion Red Cup premier 50-over competition resumed under fickle conditions across the region.

Hosting City at Bourne Deane Domain, Kaipara Flats enjoyed success in the 50-over format with a 47-run win.

All out for 168 after 49.1 overs at the crease, Kaipara's tail-enders Luke Beaven (31) and Matthew Taylor (29) top scored for the home side.

Taking four wickets apiece, Kieran Nelson (4-24) and Max Trimble (4-30) implemented City's decision to bowl first worthwhile after winning the toss.

As rain swept in, the second innings was revised with City needing 24 runs off five overs to take the win.

Operating under the Duckworth Lewis method, City Cricket Club Premiers scored 19 runs off their allocated overs and were all out for 121 off 37 overs to hand Kaipara the win.

Joey Yovich and Ian Page high-scored with knocks of 37 and 38 under the system.

At Kensington Park, the weather also made its presence felt for Whangarei BHS's match against Maungakaramea and Onerahi's match against Kamo; both succumbing to rain-reduced innings.

In the Boys' High fixture, Maungakaramea proved too good as they got stuck in to win by six wickets.

Setting a total of 73/10 in the first innings, the Boys' High batsmen struggled against Maungakaramea bowlers Michael Harris (4-32) and Kurtley Watson (2-5).

In the return innings, Maungakaramea were led by Ben Cochrane's stand of 44-not out as they powered to victory.

Matthew Lobb bowled 2-34 for Boys' High.

In the remaining match of the round, Kamo set Onerahi a total of 90 to chase, which they did so in good time to notch the win.

Meanwhile, rain plagued the women's domestic T20 action between the Northern Spirit and the Central Hinds at Cobham Oval on Saturday.

Winning the toss, the Northern Spirit elected to bowl first, but the match was abandoned after five overs of play because of dismal conditions.

The Northern Spirit host the Central Hinds again today at Cobham Oval for a one-day match, weather permitting.

Play is scheduled to start 10.30am.
