Whangarei's Henry Cooper has made his debut for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield.
The Onerahi Central batsman has been rewarded for a rich vein of form for Northland, which included a record partnership with Northern Districts A batsman Ben Hyde.
Cooper was called into the squad from the ProvincialA T20 tournament after captain Dean Brownlie was named as Black Caps cover for Ross Taylor as he deals with eye concerns.
Cooper was straight out into the middle with night watchman Ish Sodhi, who was unbeaten overnight.
His debut didn't go quite to plan as Northern Districts struggled against Central Districts' bowling attack at Nelson Park in Napier.
Cooper battled for 39 minutes, facing 25 balls, before being caught of the bowling of six-time Black Cap Ben Wheeler for seven.
The Whangarei local was earlier named the Overseas Player of the Year in the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League while playing for Broad Oak during the New Zealand winter.
He scored 1066 runs in 23 innings at an average of 62.71, while picking up 21 wickets at a touch under 20 with his off-spin.
