Cricket: Cherrington ton highlight on day of T20 action

A ton in the last game of round two in the reserve grade T20 competition capped off a highly entertaining day of cricket.

Kamo Reserves opener James Cherrington belted 115 against Onerahi Central to lead his side to a comfortable 47-run victory.

Cherrington smoked 15 boundaries and a pair of sixes as he took full toll on Onerahi's bowling.

Fielding cost the Onerahi side as they let Cherrington and Travis Connelly (33) stick around as they took Kamo to 168/2 from their 20 overs.

Despite the best efforts of opener Dev Birchall (35), Onerahi were behind the eight ball as they weren't able to keep up with the climbing required run rate, inevitably falling 47 runs short as they made 121/7 from their allotment.

City Reserves and Maungakaramea Reserves made it apparent they are the teams to beat as they went through the opening day unbeaten.

City Reserves had a pair of five wicket wins as they defeated Kamo High School and Whangarei Boys High School Second XI.

Against WBHS, 32 runs from Brad Lang ensured a fairly comfortable chase for City after they bowled WBHS for 104. Five bowlers took two wickets each for City.

Richard Stobart took three wickets for WBHS, but it was ultimately in vain.

City gave a bowling master class in their other match as they restricted Kamo High School to 74/9 off their 20 overs. Max Turner led Kamo's batting effort with 26.

Tim King stood out with 3/9 in his spell before they chased down the total with five wickets to spare. Turner had 3/14 while Billy Alexander-Crawford chipped in with 2/2 off three overs.

Maungakaramea dominated their opposition with great batting displays as they beat Kamo Reserves and Kamo High School.

Firstly, they scored 138/3 as they beat Kamo Reserves by 71 runs.

Then they showed their expertise as they hit 193/6 off their overs against Kamo High School.

Carl Tomich (61), Stephen Cunis (41) and James Hutchinson (32) led the way as they cruised at nearly 10 an over.

Nathan Parkes (2/25) and Harry Cooper (2/29) were the pick of the bowlers for Kamo High.

Kamo High battled in their innings, scoring 125/3 as they fell 68 runs short. Parkes (41 not out) and Tom Bolton (27) led the chase but ultimately it wasn't enough.

WBHS had a one win, one loss record as they beat Kerikeri High School by seven wickets.

Hamish McKechnie (3-15) and Stobart (2-15) led the bowling attack as WBHS restricted their opposition to 94/7. Kian Bird hit 40 not out to take WBHS past the target.
