Cricket: Cherrington ton highlight of Reserve round

A century from Kamo's James Cherrington was the highlight as Kamo, Duracrete Products City and Onerahi Central grabbed wins in the Reserve Grade 40 over competition.

Kerikeri batted first in a high scoring game against Kamo, putting on 223 for nine off their 40 overs.

Gulzar Verma (57) and Rob Drummond (50) both scored half centuries, while Matt Galbraith (22) and Max Hart (20) added contributions in a good team performance.

Logan Choat (3 for 39) was the best of the Kamo bowlers, attacking the crease and delivering with control.

In Kamo's reply it was a one man show as Cherrington blasted an impressive 120 to see his side home with 45 balls to spare.

Cherrington batted with great intent as he carried on his strong form from 2016 into the new year, making bowling a chore for Kerikeri.

Aaron Ranara (3 for 20) and Hart (3 for 43) were the pick of the bowlers, but couldn't prevent a three wicket loss.

Meanwhile City grabbed a 54-run victory over Westech Automotive Maungakaramea at Kensington Park.

Maungakaramea sent City in to bat and it looked to be the right decision as they made early inroads.

Warrick Rota (4 for 22) was the chief destroyer as City were caught floundering at 26 for three.

The third wicket brought Ravinder Maan 989) to the crease and, combining with first drop Jake Serotsky (74), put on a massive 166 run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Rota returned to the crease and with the help of the rest of his attack they slowed City down in the last seven overs. City finished up on 229 for 6.

Tom Skudder (54 off 34 balls) made a flying start to the chase as he and Carl Tomich (13) put on 63 for the first wicket.

However, regular wickets from that point on hindered their chances of winning the match.

Wickets were shared around the City bowling attack as they dismissed Maungakaramea for 175 to take the win.

In the final match, Onerahi Central scored a 65-run victory over Whangarei Boys High School Second XI.

Onerahi openers BJ Howie (25) and Michael Vickers (28) got them off to a quick start, putting on 79 for the opening stand.

Andrew Johnsen scored a patient 27 in the middle order, while Martin Tansley (14) and Callum Harnett contributed to a good innings of 186 all out from Onerahi.

They could have scored more had it not been for off-spinner Lukesh Kidd (4 for 24), who bowled a great spell of slow bowling.

WBHS' reply started disastrously, losing three wickets for just 11 runs to start as Axel Sheppard (2 for 29) got into his work.

Tim Osbaldistan (47) batted staunchly and provided a great counter-attack following the drinks break, but Onerahi's all-round bowling effort left WBHS all out for 121.
