Crashes in Northland trap person, bring down power lines, close roads

A section of State Highway 14 is closed in both directions after a car crashed into a power pole in one of at least three incidents on Northland roads this afternoon.

One person has minor injuries and the road - northeast of Maungatapere - is expected to be closed for hours because power lines have been brought down, a police spokeswoman said.

Traffic is being diverted via Newton Rd.

The crash happened about 3.15pm.

Meanwhile, an injured person trapped in a car that has rolled near Kerikeri is being freed.

The person is believed to be moderately hurt, a police spokeswoman said.

That incident, involving a single car, occurred on Wiroa Rd, between Bulls and Airport roads, about 4.15pm.

And a two car collision is blocking the northbound lane of the main street in Moerewa, between Snowden Ave and Wynyard St.

The vehicles crashed about 4.25pm.
