Crash on State Highway 1 near Mata

There has been a crash on State Highway 1 between Flyger and Cotton roads, near Mata.

An elderly man is believed to be trapped in a vehicle after the car he was in collided with a truck about 3.45pm today.

Police are at the scene and may be closing one lane while they get the man from the vehicle.

Please be patient and follow police and emergency service workers directions.

UPDATE 4.25pm
A man has been cut from a vehicle and is to being flown to Whangarei Hospital by the rescue helicopter.

Police say the road should open to both lanes shortly.
