The Whangarei District Council wants to develop the vacant site next to the Te Matau a Pohe bridge.
A new call has gone out for inspired businesses to register their interest to move into the carpark space next to Te Matau a Pohe bridge in Whangarei.
The Whangarei District Council is hoping someone with entrepreneurial nous is keen to use the vacant Port Rd site as a restaurant,
cafe or other business fitting for the area.
While the site beside the award-winning bridge is occupied by motorhomes, WDC spokeswoman Rachel Pascoe said those vans would be moved on as soon as a more permanent tenant was found for the site.
While the WDC was not looking to develop the site, as such, it was hoping to unleash some recreational potential for the area, which has experienced greater footfall with the opening of the Te Matau a Pohe and Kotuitui Whitinga bridges and the popular Hatea Loop.
The Whangarei loop was being used by hundreds of people walking, running, skating and cycling the loop.
