Audiences are in for a treat with the announcement of an extra helping of Oliver.
in response to overwhelming public demand, Otamatea Repertory Theatre has added an extra show - a matinee on Sunday. There are also shows tomorrow night and a matinee on Saturday as well as matinees on Saturday and Sunday, August 18 and 19.
Lionel Bart's sensational musical boasts a string of hits, including Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, I'd Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah.
"Director Peter Flower's production is fresh and interesting, taking us out of the Victorian era to somewhere both more modern and more colonial" said reviewer, Jen Calthrop. "Shades of 1930s depression mix with the austerity of the 1950s, plus a bit of wild West thrown in for good measure. Musical Director Warwick Simpson's treatment of the music supports this design as many of the tunes are jazzed up to give the piece more of a smoky, swing feel, and the band are more than up to the task, playing with a confidence and musicality seldom heard on the amateur stage."

Senior Net Bream Bay
Bream Bay seniors are invited to a social meeting to hear Grant Sidaway speak about technology trends in the next 12 months.
Grant will provide information and show electronic gadgets including touch screens and other devices needed to move forward with the times.
The meeting will be held at the Bream Bay Community Trust, Takutai Place Ruakaka on Thursday, August 16, at 10am. Entrance fee is $2. Enquiries to (09) 432-7692.

Settlement Support is a national information service funded by Immigration New Zealand in 18 locations throughout the country.
The Whangarei Office is at 71 Bank St and migrants are invited to attend a new jobseekers club there at the Migrant Centre beginning tomorrow at 11am.
At the new club, members will help one another find a job while they network, exchange job ideas, business cards, CVs, and information.
Practising applying for jobs and interviewing will help build new skills.
Members also research employers, listen to guest speakers, and go on field trips. Increasing networks, shortening job searches and having fun are good reasons to attend.
You can also learn ways to help your children find jobs.
The club facilitator will be Jean Ottley from Careers New Zealand.

For migrants who wish to know more about Maori culture with an eye to perhaps work in social services or for the government, a course called Tikanga 4 today is being held during four weekends.
Designed for everyone who wants to learn about Maori culture, traditions and values and how they influence us, the course is held at Pehiaweri Marae (just past the Whangarei Falls) and begins in mid-August. Many jobs require some knowledge of Tikanga Maori and the Treaty of Waitangi. As it will be held at Pehiaweri Marae, the participants will become familiar with marae protocol.
The course is a no-fees, Level 3 Certificate Course, and part of the Te Wananga o Aotearoa programme. Held for four weekends between August and December, meals and workbooks are provided.

Writers and aspiring writers are invited to a festival for New Zealand writers, illustrators and readers hosted by the Northland Branch of the New Zealand Society of Authors.
Northland writers Rae Roadley and Zana Bell, Kathy Derrick and Michelle Elvy are joined by well-known authors David Hill, Joe Bennett Deborah Challinor, Kyle Mewburn and others to present two days of enlightening workshops and discussions.
For writers wanting to know more about social media and marketing, workshops by Catherine Arrow (Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and Secretary of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management), freelance public relations consultant Lorraine Steel and online communications expert Sarah Gumbley will be exciting and helpful.
Poets and illustrators are also catered for in workshops with Paula Green and Fifi Colston.
