She's New Zealand's head of state and on Thursday Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday will be celebrated in style in Whangarei.

The SuperBlues, a group of National Party supporters aged over 60, are putting on a special celebration and high tea on Thursday to celebrate the Queen's birthday.

Shirley Faber is the Northland co-ordinator of SuperBlues and she said the special event was a way for monarchists to show their support for Queen Elizabeth II as she turns 90.

Mrs Faber said the event, at Maunu's Masonic Village Hall from 2pm to 4pm on Thursday, would have a "pretend monarch", some special guests and plenty of pomp and ceremony.

She said anybody wanting to turn up and support the Queen can pay $10 at the door for the high tea and birthday celebrations.
