Whangarei's Octagon Theatre is breaking into song and dance - crooning, rocking and rolling its way through Old School.

A younger than usual crew - with help from some people who were there and can remember the 60s - have got their groove on for the production based on music from the 50s, 60s and a touch of the 70s.

Wendy Berridge, the director, is delighted at the enthusiasm from a cast spanning several generations.

"Whangarei community has some amazing talent," she said.

"I've been a member of the Octagon Theatre for a few years now. I'm also a dairy farmer. My children have their own lives now so it's my time to do what I enjoy. I find that in the theatre. I have a reputation of being a bit bossy so directing suits me just fine.

"I'm new at the game and have only directed three shows but I'm hooked and hope I'll be able to do more. Please enjoy the show I've enjoyed being part of. The cast are sensational."

Old School is on from November 18 - December 4 at the Octagon Theatre with dinner and show or show only options.
