When setting goals, we are all driven by different motivating factors. However, there are certain qualities that are shared by everyone enjoying the fruits of success and one of those qualities is "commitment".

"The only limit to your impact in life is your imagination and commitment."

Commitment sets us firmly on a path towards achieving our goals. It is an attitude far beyond just being involved. Lucky for us, the path to our dreams, visions and ideals lies directly in our hands. Once envisioned and set as a desired goal, it is our level of determination and commitment (determined commitment) that decides when, how and if we arrive.

There is no shortage of definitions for "commitment" …|

• The energy to transform promises into reality
• The tenacity to stick to achieving goals long after any initial excitement wanes
• Speaking powerful and empowering words that declare our intentions
• The "invisible" stuff that forms and shapes our character
• A promise to stick to a chosen path, no matter what obstacles appear to distract and derail us.

When we stop and think about it, everything we have accomplished or achieved in life was or is the direct result of commitment, of keeping "our promises to ourselves and others". It might be related to our families, our friends, our hobbies, our workplace, or business associates, whatever the "promise" or to whom, it is commitment that gets us there.

Commitment is an investment in ourselves and the excellent results we desire to achieve. It is a willingness to give 120 per cent, to keep on fighting even when we think we have hit rock bottom.

A committed mind no longer entertains choices but has a defined purpose. This clarity and laser sharp vision allows focus on the target/goal without confusion and its associated partner, procrastination. "Giving up" or "giving in" before reaching our goals displays a definite lack of commitment before and during the journey.

Reaching for perfectionism, lack of faith in oneself and the inability to stay committed are a few of the major reasons that people quit before realising their goals. These are all interwoven and connected - the more one fails, the less committed they become, and this loss of commitment in turn, causes a loss of faith. Loss of faith is the fodder of failure. It is a vicious cycle of negative actions producing negative results, one feeding the other.

Other reasons people end up quitting before their goals are realised: Putting emphasis on the end-result / destination while dismissing the journey there. Joy, happiness, growth, and success are found in the moment, in the journey, not in our imaginary future or deceased past. Focusing on the lessons of today while growing towards our goals is key. Entertaining self-sabotaging beliefs such as "it won't happen" or "it can't happen".

These thoughts are all based on past experiences that the mind catalogues and calls into action when a similar situation occurs. But today is not yesterday. Times are different. When entertaining these types of thoughts, we are basking in the past or future of our minds where all our limited thoughts and beliefs live and thrive.

Neither one has validity in the moment where "all possibility" exists and awaits our focused love, attention, and commitment. Basing our beliefs on past results alone causes us to experience the same situations over and over.

Ignoring the need for change. The need to tweak the path or adopt differently than how we originally imagined / began is ultimately important. Flexibility in any situation is mandatory as life is not a fixed programme and we must learn to flow with it or "go with the flow". The "flow" is where peace resides.

Success is not segregated to a few but belongs to everyone equally. However, those that have achieved it have not gotten there by slacking, cynicism, or disbelief. Neither did it happen overnight. It took many hours of hard work, dedication, determination, commitment, and a firm belief in one's ability to achieve.

Giving up never feels good because we have thrown the towel in on something we value and know deep down inside is possible. The result is a feeling of defeat and ultimately, regret. Sadly, for many, giving up happens moments before the big breakthrough - just as the goal is ready to be realised.

"Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!"

Make no mistake – given two equal opponents working towards the same goal, the one that is most committed always wins!

Envision that perfectly healthy, toned, and fit body? Go for it. Envision super health, vitality, and longevity? Go for it. Envision a healthy bank account that offers peace of mind, travel and excitement? Go for it.

Whatever lives in your heart, make a choice, weigh the pros and cons, and go for it. Keep your eye on the goal while enjoying the journey and do not look back – that is where you came from, not where you are going.
