Daffodil race day raises dollars
Ruakaka Racing's Harcourts Daffodil Race Day last Saturday raised more than $13,000 for the Cancer Society.

The proceeds came from entry fees, a raffle and charity auction, Harcourts high tea ticket sales, racing silks and a generous winning owner who donated $5000 on the day.

Ruakaka Racing administrator Rebecca Swords said the jockeys wearing daffodil raceday silks was very successful at Ruakaka, with five race winners out of the nine races wearing the silks.

If the jockey wearing the daffodil raceday silks and their horse win, she says, the New Zealand Racing Board donate $500 to the Cancer Society, which means $2500 will be donated to Cancer Society Northland.

Ruakaka is now a strong contender to be the racing club with the most winners on its Daffodil race day and potentially could receive an additional $2000 donation from NZRB for its local Cancer Society.

The Daffodil race days kicked off in Hastings on September 1 and the last in the event series is October 27 in Wellington. Ruakaka's next race day is on September 15 - the Cambridge Stud Northland Breeders Stakes Group 3 race, Ruakaka's biggest stakes race.
