Bowls: Tension ahead of pennant clash

Representative Fixtures:

It has been a busy few weekends for bowlers, last weekend beingno exception when the 1-5 and 1-8 Representative fixtures were completed at the Kensington and Kamo greens on Saturday.

The overall competition was won by Auckland who carried a large lead over from the 1st round of the competition held in October.

Final results were: 1-8 Women - Auckland 39, Northland 28, North Harbour 20, Far North 18. 1-8 Men and 1-5 Men and Women results currently not available.

Sunday saw the Representative teams from North Harbour, Far North and Northland (two teams) compete against one another at Bowls Whangarei.

The results on the day were: Men - Northland 1 18pts, Northland A 15 pts, North Harbour 12 pts, Far North 9 pts.

Women: North Harbour 15 pts, Northland A 14 pts, Northland 1 12 pts, Far North 10pts. All Northland teams used this fixture to try out various combinations and players were interchanged between teams.

Interclub 7s and Centre Pennants:

This weekend sees the finals of Interclub 7's and Centre pennants being played on Saturday at Kensington (Women) and Mangawhai (Men).

On Sunday, playoffs for the top-four teams in Mens 7s and Pennants will be played at Onerahi. Competition is very close and should result in some exciting final matches.

Current placings are:

Men's 7s Section Leaders: Whangarei 1, Mangawhai Red, Onerahi; Hikurangi.

Women's Pennants: Kamo Kiwi, Kensington 1, Kamo Kingfishers.

Tournaments over the Christmas period include the Kensington Mx Pairs, December 25-27; December 27, Mangawhai 1-5 Year Classic Fours, 28th Mangawhai AC 4's - three non-bowlers; December 31, Dargaville Mx Triples; January 2, Hikurangi AC Pairs; January 3, Kensington Men's Pairs, Mangawhai Mx Pairs.

The New Zealand National tournament for men and women commences on December 29 and concludes on January 8.
