Club Open Tournaments begin next week

The Centre opening last Sunday at Bowls Whangarei was well attended by clubs.

All present were welcomed by Centre president Dusty Reader who declared the season officially open. Due to the inclement weather the usual first jack and bowl delivery was not completed.

Also in attendance were life members Pat Young and Gwen Lawson, with patron Len Lawrence and sponsors Wally & Jeanette Yovich and Diane Lawrence.

The members of the new board were introduced to those in attendance. Also present representing Bowls NZ was the development officer for the area, Martin McKenzie.

The next few months will see him attempting to visit all clubs in the Northland area and to assist in any way that he can with matters relevant to good business structure.

Centre handbooks were all distributed to clubs on the day.

The first official event of the new season is the Centre Pennants for men and women to be held on artificial greens on the weekend of September 16-17. Clubs are reminded that entries close today.

Clubs and players please ensure that you do not put entry forms for events through the former slot used for this purpose as the Centre office has moved and we no longer have access.
