Bowls: Results for Northland, Far North mixed bag

The first representative fixtures for the season were held last weekend at Waipu and Mangawhai greens in good weather for bowls. Results for Northland and Far North were a mixed bag. With the change to a direct entry to a New Zealand event being made for the 1-8 year players it was a preview for these players in particular as to their capabilities. Results of the first round were:

Women 1-8: Auckland 22 win points, +57 shots; Northland 18 win points, +42 shots; Far North 9 win points -38 shots; North Harbour 4 win points, -61 shots.

Men 1-8: Auckland 18 win points +49 shots; North Harbour 18 win points +17 shots; Northland 12 win points -4 shots; Far North 6 win points, -62 shots.

Women 1-5: Auckland 25 win points, +36 shots; Northland 21 win points +1 shot; North Harbour 18 win points,-23 shots; Far North 6 win points, -16 shots.

Men 1-5: Auckland 27 win points, +42 shots; North Harbour 21 win points, +56 shots, Northland 15 win points, +11 shots; Far North 9 win points, -39 shots.

Well done to Northland women's singles player Diane Strawbridge who had 3 wins in 3 matches on the day.

Flying squad

The Bowls Northland Coaching association advise clubs that their "Coaching Flying Squad" will once again be available to visit clubs and along with club coaches be able to assist with this facet of our game. Please contact the Flying Squad co-ordinator Gwen Lawson if you would like to have their assistance.

Club open tournaments for next week are: Oct 10-11: Mangawhai Men's Fours. Oct 12: Mt Manaia Mx Triples. Oct 13: Kamo Men's 60+ Triples; Onerahi AC Triples. Oct 14: Mangawhai Women MX Triples; Maungatapere AC Triples. Oct 15: Hikurangi 2x4x2 AC Pairs. Oct 16: Far North Umpires AC Triples. Oct 17-18: Most clubs are playing the first of the Club Championships.
