The Regional Club Championships were held in Kerikeri last week and it is congratulations to Betty Mitchell (Singles) and Manu Timoti and Betty Mitchell (Pairs), Paul and Jean Huxtable (Far North) in the Mixed Pairs who will be representing Region 1 in the New Zealand finals to be held next month in the Bay of Plenty. Well done to our other representatives for whom it was oh-so-close with several of them missing out qualifying on the countback of points scored.

Corner to Corner

Well done to Judy Fraser (One Tree Point) and Merv Myocevich (Hikurangi) who were the winner and runner up in the Northern Regional final of the Grants Corner to Corner competition. Both players will represent the Northland/Far North region in the New Zealand final in Auckland next month.

Inter Centre

Next week (March 26-29) will see the Northland Representative Open teams competing in the New Zealand Inter Centre tournament in Christchurch. Northland will be represented by:

Men: Singles: Gordon Bond; Pair: Dan Collett and Kevin Robinson; Four: Peter Dorreen, Ken Fitness, Trevor Reader and Rob Anderson. Manager/coach is Eric Pattillo.

Women: Singles: Anne Bateman; Pair: Ann Muir and Leanne Stewart; Four: Maureen Parker, Pam Brewster, Janice McLean and Diane Lawrence. Manager/coach is Ann Muir, assistant is Sue Wightman.

Almost every Centre in the country is represented in this prestigious event. May we wish you all every success.

Development

The Northland Representative Development teams will be taking part in their major tournament the same weekend in Auckland.

Men: Singles: Alistair Trimmer; Pair: Dean McMurchy and George Lyddiard; Four: Dennis Brewster, Steve Smith, Kevin Sidwell and Simon Reesby. Manager/coach is Steve Smith, assistant is Bruce Horscroft.

Women: Singles: Diane Strawbridge; Pair: Ann Halls and Linda Brockbank; Four: Maree Attwood, Karen Horscroft, Glenda Norris-Palmer and Savanna Lauder. Manager is Jude Ganley, coach is Karen Horscroft.

Schools event

The Secondary Schools event will be played tomorrow at Bowls Whangarei. A good contingent of entries, particularly from the boys, has entered.

Reporting time is 9am with play starting around 9.30am.

Helpers for this event would be appreciated, and bowls for the students to use would also come in useful. The regional event will be held in September

-The Centre Executive Fours tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8 at Bowls Whangarei. Clubs please enter your teams to the Centre office. Remember that club volunteers are eligible for entry in this event.

-The Centre 1-5 Year Junior Singles for Men and Women will be held on April 18-19. Entries for this are now being accepted. Please enter via the website or by completing the entry form in the Centre hand book.
