Bowling news in Northland

Bowling news in Northland

The inclement weather on Saturday for section play caused the Junior 1-5 year singles to be amended to 18 shots, with a two-hour time limit and artificial greens came into use.

Eighteen players took part in both the men's and women's section of the event. Each section had six qualifiers for post section play on Sunday. Congratulations to Savanna Lauder (Hikurangi) who defeated Carol Neeley (Kamo) in the women's section 18-17 to win the event.

Carol scored on two of the first three ends. Savanna then went out to a 13-6 lead by scoring a four on the 12th end and extended this lead to 16-8 on the 16th end before Carol started her comeback.

Eight points were scored on the next five ends to go into the last with the scores tied at 17 all. Two shots on the last end gave Savanna the win.

In the Men's section, Glen Wintle (Mangawhai) met Wiki Waru (Leigh) in the final.

Both players had beaten more experienced opponents in the semifinals with Wiki 18-8 over Kelvin Bint and Glen 18-16 over Murray Heaton.

This final was close with the scores being tied four all after 7 ends, and fifteen all after 20 ends.

A one on the 21st end and two shots on the last, meant the win went to Glen Wintle 18-15. Well done to both players, in particular to Glen who is in his first season as a registered bowler.
