Bottles were thrown at police officers as they attempted to break up an unruly mob in Kaikohe.

Police were called to reports of 20 people fighting outside a party on Clifford St at about 1am, on Sunday.

However, when they arrived, aggression turned towards the officers.

The crowd outside the party swelled to more than 50 as people yelled "f*** the police" and "KG" [Kaikohe Gangsters]. Several bottles were thrown, one of which smashed a windscreen on a police car. Police were able to bring the party under control with the help of extra units and the party-goers dispersed. Officers caught up with a group a short time later on Wihongi and De Merle streets, arresting four adults and two youths, and charging them with disorderly behaviour.

The brawl follows the wrapping up in court of a gang brawl at a service station in Kaikohe last year. Several gang associates were jailed in December after a May brawl at the Z Service Station which involved wheel braces, screw drivers, chains, and knives.
