Whangarei police called to deal with an alleged suicide attempt ended up charging a 43-year-old man with possession of cannabis.
Police went to the man's Whau Valley home at 12.45am on Sunday and could smell cannabis.
Acting Sergeant John Larkin said a search uncovered a hydroponic set-up and several plants.

A man was charged with possessing a weapon, assault and wilful damage on Saturday.
Mr Larkin said the 29-year-old man had apparently been jealous over his partner texting at their Morningside home about 12.30pm. He threatened to kill himself and allegedly pushed her against a refrigerator and into a bedroom before smashing up their home.
In a separate incident at 12.09am on Sunday, a 30-year-old Tikipunga man allegedly started shouting at his 24-year-old partner, who had left their bedroom with her two-year-old daughter, going into another room and shutting the door.
The man had allegedly kicked his way into the room, dragged out the woman and hit her head several times.
Mr Larkin said the man had also allegedly struck the child and threatened her life if police were called.
He was later arrested and allegedly became aggressive in a police car while being driven to Whangarei Police Station.
He was charged with threatening grievous bodily harm, injury with intent, wilful damage and resisting police.
Another 38-year-old man was charged with assault after a dispute between him and his 36-year-old partner.
He allegedly punched her and pushed her out of bed.
Also on Sunday, a 36-year-old Onerahi man was arrested for breaching a protection order when he went to a Morningside address to see his former partner.
He was wanted on alleged charges of assaulting her, breaching a protection order and escaping from custody.
The man was first taken to the Whangarei Police Station and then to Whangarei Hospital for psychiatric care. He was expected to appear in Whangarei District Court today.
A 34-year-old man was charged with breaching a protection order when he argued with his 33-year-old former partner, who threw his belongings out of an Onehahi house and told him to leave.
She was allegedly grabbed around the throat and elbowed before the man smashed furniture.
A 23-year-old Kamo man was accused of possession of a weapon, threatening to kill, disorderly behaviour, two charges of grievous bodily harm and two arrest warrants after an incident at a Bank St nightclub at 4.25am on Sunday.
