The Bay of Island SPCA centre has been littered with kittens and last week alone 28 little cuties were driven to a pet shop in Auckland.
That's a record for just one delivery to the national chainstore Animates, but since January the SPCA centre has taken more than 200 kittensto the store, manager John Logie said.
SPCA has a partnership deal in which Animates' 22 stores sells only desexed, vaccinated, wormed and flea-free kittens that come from the animal welfare group.
But right now it's not kittens needing a home; it's five lovely mother cats who between them and one other who's already found a home bred 50 kittens.
The young mums are back to being sleek, perfectly healthy and looking for a loving home, Mr Logie said.
Actually, they haven't got all their "bits and pieces", having being desexed after their kittens were weaned.
The queenly cats are microchipped and have passed the personality test that means they'll make suitable pets.
They came to the SPCA through various ways - one rescued after being abandoned with her litter, one surrendered before she had the kittens, Mr Logie said.
-Anyone interested in having one of these pretty pusses can visit the SPCA on the the corner of Waimate North Rd and State Highway 10 between 9am and 4pm or phone 09 4077515.
