"As we are the first age group team in our region to qualify in over five years, we are excited about the prospect. It allows us to continue to develop our skills and experience in the sport."
The side has been training twice a week since last November, preparing them for the biggest stage.
With 15 other teams registered to compete at the nationals, their goal is to make top 8.
The players would like to "win more games than we lose".
Sadler said they have a fantastic player group.
"This team has been a joy to work with and with their inherent leadership qualities, as referenced by their leadership positions in their schools, they are more than qualified to serve as positive advocates and ambassadors of achievement amongst their peers," he said.
The squad has three head boys in their midst: Ezra Sadler (Kamo High School), James Martinac (Huanui College) and Parirau Tonga (Te Rawhitiroa).
They also have two deputy head boys and three prefects.
Of their 13-strong squad, only 10 will be making the trip due to other commitments.
Tonga and Taylor Major have kapa haka national commitments, while Rewi McPherson has received a basketball scholarship from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The squad is looking for sponsorship to help them get to the national tournament.
"Due to the very quick turn-around between tournaments we haven't been given a lot of time to fundraise to meet the necessary expenses," Sadler said.
"We are looking at gathering sponsorship and accepting donations and/or contributions from members of our community to help ease the cost on our families."
The national tournament runs from July 20-23 in Nelson.
