Three people are in custody after a burglary and high-speed getaway through South and North Auckland this afternoon.
Police were called about 5pm to a burglary at a commercial premises on Great South Rd in Drury. Three offenders allegedly fled in a waiting vehicle.
Officers signalled for the vehicle tostop after spotting it leaving the scene, but it took off at speed. Police did not pursue the vehicle due to the manner of driving, instead tracking it from above with the Eagle helicopter as it travelled north on State Highway 1.
As it left Drury, the fleeing vehicle collided with another car on Great South Rd and later struck a bus on Scott Rd in Papakura. No one was reported injured.
At times, the vehicle was reportedly travelling at more than 1.5 times the speed limit on the Auckland Northern Motorway.
Shortly before 6pm, the vehicle came to a stop on the Northern Motorway just north of Puhoi Rd. Three people were taken into custody without further incident, and police say charges are being considered.
