Improvements to Whangārei's Laurie Hall Park have been completed in time for the region's biggest dawn service.

Whangārei District Council said new lighting, footpaths, stairs, lawns, planting and a new tiled entry off Bank St will be ready for people attending this year's Anzac Day ceremony at the park.

The work started in January this year, and was carried out by a number of contractors.

The council said the work has brought the top half of Laurie Hall Park up to the standard of the new cenotaph which was completed in time for the World War I centenary commemorations in 2014.

Parts of Bank St, Rust Ave, Cameron St, Rathbone St, Robert St and the Laurie Hall Car park service lanes will be closed from 4am to 8am tomorrow for the dawn parade.
