What's On: Whangārei monthly clean up to focus on bush off Tauroa St

A Raumanga street and nearby bush area will be the target of this month's Love Whangārei Monthly Clean Up on Saturday.

The clean up, run by F.O.R.C.E, will focus on Tauroa St and into a bush area which has been used as a dumping ground for household waste.

It is the third time the Love Whangārei Monthly Clean Up will be held around this area, but the first time this specific area will be tackled.

In February this year, around 500kg of waste was removed from the roadside and bush further along Tauroa St while the grass area and surrounding tress beside McDonalds was the site of the first clean up in October last year.

Whangārei's self-appointed rubbish wrangler went to check out the area before the clean up.

"We are going to need all the help we can get," he said.

F.O.R.C.E co-ordinator Karen Lee said the volunteers, known as E.N.F.O.R.C.E.E.R.s - enthusiastic, neighbour, for, our, real, clean, environment, eradicating, rubbish - have said it is the support of others that ensures they have the drive to keep going until the job is done.

"So it really is the more the merrier."

Anyone who wants to help should meet at the corner of Tauroa and Fairburn Sts at 9am on Saturday. There will be gloves, hand sanitiser, water and a few treats.
