Paddler dies
A 70-year-old Whangārei man has died while out waka ama paddling on Whangārei Harbour. Police said the man had been steering the waka when he told his Parihaka club teammates he felt unwell about 5.30pm on Wednesday. Police said the waka was paddled back to shore and the man given CPR before St John and fire crews arrived. He died at the scene and the case has been referred to the coroner.
Blood donations
The NZ Blood Service is in Whangārei later this month collecting some life-saving supplies. The Blood Service will be in the city from September 24-28 . People can give blood at Forum North on September 24 from 12pm to 5pm, on September 25 from 12pm to 6pm and on September 26 from 10am to 4pm. Collections will also be taken at the Northland Cricket Association, in Okara Drive, on September 27 from 12pm to 6pm then the following day from 9am to 1pm.

More than 130 companies are exhibiting, which is at the ASB Stadium on September 28, 29 and 30.
