On Saturday Takahiwai Warrior Edward Wilson and Otangarei Knight Linn Hunapo were opponents in the Rugby League Northland Premier Grand Final. Now they are teammates in the Northern Swords prem squad.

Probably not surprisingly the two teams that played out the Rugby League Northland Premier Grand Final at the weekend provide the most players for the first Northern Swords Premier training squad.

The squad will be training at the Blue Goose, in Whangārei, tonight before a trial hit out against Taranaki on Saturday.

Players from Otangarei Knights, who won the RLN grand final on Saturday and beaten finalists Takahiwai Warriors provide the majority of players in the squad.

Otangarei provides players Sam Henry, Jordan Katene, Cyrus Edwards, Pedro Blake, Daley Johnson, Dominic Ormsby, Vincent Paul, Sepeti Tatau, Verne Wilson and Lin Hunapo.

Takahiwai players selected are Kyle Hool, Ross McFarlane, Taine Lee Shelford, Mike Hauraki, Levita Levita, Jess Epiha, Nicholas Poutama, Leroy Nicholson and Ed Wilson.

Beaten major semi-finalists Moerewa Tigers provide the next highest number of players in Peter Prime, Rock Wiki, Jahdon Palmer, Saia Lopeti, Jarrod Hona and Herewini McGregor.

Horahora Broncos provide Manaaki Tawhiwhirangi and Tesimoni Uilou while Portland Panthers provide players Mike Salase and Stillie Antonio. Some more players are to be added ahead of the training and trial game.

The Northern Swords Premier Squad trains at Blue Goose tonight from 6pm before taking on Taranaki at Hikurangi from 7pm on Saturday.
