The Centre Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday, June 24 at Bowls Whangarei HQ.

The Centre Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday, June 24 at Bowls Whangarei HQ.

This Saturday evening sees the culmination of the centre activities for the season with the 10th Annual Centre Awards and presentation of certificates and prizes for the 2017-18 season.

Bowls NZ will be represented by Martin McKenzie, NZ CDO for the area.

Special awards are nominated by clubs and bowlers and will presented for categories from Player of the Year - male and female; Team/side of the Year, Green Keeper of the Year, Coach of the Year, Administrator of the Year, and Service to Bowls.

Also being presented are two gold stars for five centre titles and one gold bar for 25 centre titles along with NZ Certificates for those who succeeded at a NZ level.

Clubs also say a bid thank you to volunteers by nominating them for this category.

Meet and greet is from 5.30pm. It is disappointing that more club members are not attending to support those in their clubs who have achieved at a centre and NZ level in the past season.

Clubs are reminded that the centre and tournament programme for 2018-19 has been sent to them and we hope match committees are busy checking proposed programmes for next season.

The programme is very full with club events, well over 200 open tournaments. Unfortunately not all can be held successfully and some should take a good hard look at the programme and see what they can do to improve.

Perhaps this comment will "sow the seed" to do something about this clogged up programme.

Please ensure you get your changes into the centre operation committee as soon as possible.

Reminder that the centre Annual General Meeting will be on Sunday, June 24 at headquarters at Bowls Whangarei.

Please ensure your delegate attends because there are important changes to subscriptions to be discussed around the Bowls NZ proposals.

Winter bowls events are now in full swing with Maungaturoto, Ngunguru, Hikurangi, Onerahi, Kamo, One Tree Point and Dargaville artificial greens in use for the next three months.

Contact any of the clubs if you want to play.
