Police at the scene in Tikipunga where a van was stolen yesterday and a woman was believed to have been injured while trying to prevent the theft.

A woman is believed to be injured after trying to prevent a van being stolen in Northland.

The distinctive yellow van was taken at Tikipunga about 11.30am on Tuesday and Whangarei police were appealing for help from the public.

The van, registration EMK402, was taken from Paramount Parade, resulting in an ambulance crew as well as police attending the scene. It is understood a woman was injured while trying to prevent the van from being stolen.

Comments posted on the Northland Police Facebook site suggested the thieves were not too bright, to have stolen a garish yellow vehicle with a red stripe around its base.

Police were unavailable to confirm whether they had found the van or apprehended anyone in connection with the incident.
