The Northland women's hockey team has continued its dream run in the National Hockey League, making it four wins from four.
The Mark Cromie Holden Northland women again had back-to-back wins over the weekend, winning 2-1 over Capital on Saturday before backing it up to win 3-2 yesterday against Central.
Saturday's win came from a scrappy performance against Capital. However, Northland did start well against Capital, creating goal-scoring opportunities in the opening quarter - but failed to execute in the circle, keeping Capital in the game.
However, Northland slowly took control through the next two quarters in taking a 1-0 lead into the final spell.
Northland finally showed their class, putting pressure on Capital and scoring through Stacey Michelsen, who went on to bag her second goal three minutes later.
The women's team was back at it yesterday afternoon, closing out a tight one against Central - again, starting well.
Northland scored within the first 30 seconds through the stick of Carli Michelsen, before goals to Ella Gunson and Carli.
Meanwhile the men's team also kept their form going from their first two games, losing 3-1 to Capital and 5-2 to Midlands.
Against Capital the Northland men's game was even, with both teams having multiple scoring opportunities. However, Capital went up first within three minutes of the start through a field goal and then scored again off a penalty corner.
Northland came back via a drag flick to Aidan Rintala before Capital scored next to take it to 3-1. Northland had several scoring chances in the last two quarters but didn't capitalise.
Picking up goals for Northland in their second game, against Midlands, were Sean Laidlaw and Rintala.
