Nominations were called for hapu kaikorero nominees, then an election is held to elect one hapu kaikorero for each hapu.
Mandated hapu kaikorero then appoint three hapu representatives for each of the five Te Whare Tapu o Ngapuhi regions: Hokianga, Kaikohe-Waimate Taiamai, Whangaroa, Te Pewhairangi and Whangarei ki Mangakahia.
Voting for hapu kaikorero beginning next week will be by postal, internet, and by ballot box at a scheduled election hui. In the second stage of the process, elected hapu kaikorero will appoint the 15 hapu representatives at hui between June 21-25.
The announcement of the full 22 Tuhoronuku IMA representatives (including kaumatua, kuia, urban and Te Runanga a Iwi o Ngapuhi representatives) will be made by Electionz.com early in July. Trustees will appoint negotiators and settlement talks with the Crown are expected to begin soon after.
