A travelling work of art spreading Asian culture has arrived in Northland.

The brightly-decorated truck was created by Karachi artist Younus Nawaz, who is sharing the Pakistani tradition of colourful truck art with New Zealand.

Artie, as the truck is referred to, is an International CF1200, a 39-year-old campervan designed to be an ambulance for St John in Dunedin.

Nawaz will be painting live, and Artie will be open for people to check out in Cameron St mall today from 11am until 3pm.

Decorated objects such as teapots, watering cans and posters will be available to buy as well.

Waipu photographer Peter Grant is hosting the Pakistani artist on his tour of New Zealand.

Grant travelled to Pakistan and photographed the culture of truck art while he was there.

Some of his photographs will be on display.

The pair have taken a tour of the North Island, with exhibitions being held in galleries from Wellington to Auckland.
