Almost 4000 bright yellow daffodils have been delivered to Whangarei businesses as Northland prepares for Friday's Daffodil Day Cancer Society fundraiser.
Northland has managed to dodge the shortage of fresh daffodils that has hit some other regions in New Zealand as a result of last week's polar blast affecting growing conditions.
"We've been really lucky. Our fresh flowers have all been delivered by our supplier Kerikeri Daffodil World and they look great," Cancer Society Northland events co-ordinator Paulette Scrooby said.
Mrs Scrooby said the roughly 4000 fresh flowers went to Whangarei businesses yesterday in the leadup to Friday's collection when silk lapel daffodils would be on sale. She said the silk daffodils proved popular for people on Daffodil Day.
She hoped Daffodil Day, the Cancer Society's biggest annual street appeal, would raise about $100,000 in Northland, with all funds going towards the society's services in the region.
