Police are investigating an arson at Hikurangi Primary School that damaged a wooden deck early today.

Police and Hikurangi volunteer firefighters were called to a small fire at the school. Police said it appeared someone had lit the fire on a wooden deck using box full of rubbish and it was smouldering when the firefighters arrived at 8am.

The fire, which caused little damage, is being treated as arson and anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity around the school between 4am and 5am today or may have any information relating to the fire can call the Whangarei Police on 09 430 4500. If they wish to remain anonymous they can contact the Crimestoppers organisation on 0800 555 111.
